Today 10th September 2013, completed 1 year of professional life in TCS.
What I learnt in these 365 days?
Technically, Nothing much. But yes, had a lot of experiences, some sweet & some bitter. And these experiences help us understand things in a better way.
TCS journey started on 10th September 2012 with ILP i.e. Initial Learning Program. The stream that we got in ILP was more or less on luck. Wanted Dot Net but got BIPM. ILP ended on 5th December 2012. Three months passed in no time. Got some real good friends & some more than friends in this phase. Had lots of fun including many of the b'day celebrations. When we started ILP, we heard that ILP is the dream period in TCS. At that time didn't understood but now as ILP is over now I realize what it meant.
ILP over & on the very next day we were asked to go to Bihar for iON to conduct IBPS exam. We had to arrange tickets within a day & we were in the train heading towards Patna on 7th December. Reached on 8th morning & first of all had to struggle for hotel. Finally, got a decent room. Then relocated to Purnea. With a role of Center Head there, conducted the exam quite successfully. More or less it was a nice experience. After this again back to Kolkata. Then came GATE exam. Now its Orissa. For the time participated in GATE not as a candidate but rather as the IT Manager to conduct the exam. Visited Konark, Nandan Kanan & then Puri Beach. Enjoyed a lot. It was a sort of holiday package sponsored by TCS. Again back to Kolkata.
No more iON trips after that. Had to wait for a long time to get a project. Its really frustrating when you see other people getting different projects around you. After few days situation was, all the people of my group(BG1_v1.1) except me & Subhi(Our Kuddo) got projects. Whenever I felt bad about not getting project, I used to look at subhi & only one thought used to come "Jokhon Subhi r moton meye bench a thaakte paare then aami to onek doorey project theke".
Finally got a project in Unitech. Simply there was no requirement but still I was sent there. Even my PL told that I don't have to report daily, whenever requirement will be there I will be called. Ultimately I didn't saw anything good coming out of that project in near future. So, finally decided to go back to RMG & talk to her very politely(as suggested by one of my very good friends). It worked & I got another project in Victoria Park. I was confused, should I be happy for getting this project or sad for leaving Unitech. Anyways, whatever happens, happens for good!
The project that I got & still working in is not of the type I wanted but still something is better than nothing.
And I believe, there is always something to learn everywhere. Here in this project atleast I have learned a bit of excel sheet.
New Project! New People! Everything was new! Then finally got two of my friends in the project. Whenever I feel bored, I simply go to their place & spend some time.
Seen lots of ups & downs in this one year. Met some people with some great thoughts. Became fan of them. Still have to learn a lot especially in the field of being professional.
Best that I got in these 365 days are some real good friends who supported me & supports me in every harsh situation.
I missed the most important thing! I am finally eligible to delete the TRAINEE term from my designation.
Now I am Assistant Systems Engineer. :)
Hurray! I am the first to comment! Really Emotional article but a nice one indeed! Perhaps I was searching my name somewhere in the lines but embarrassingly I could not find a single one.. maybe its a problem with blogger.. :P
ReplyDeleteGreat Stuff Glad! Keep it Up :D
It's 'One Year Journey in TCS'! There would have been your name if you hadn't betrayed me for Accenture. :P
DeleteI joined TCS, thinking it to be a great Tata’ company and continued there for a decade. The company has detiorated to rock bottom. Let me be absolutely candid here – it is a place for below average people, who are weak technically, who lack ethics and can easily compromise with their values and who fear proper competitive firms. As a result, after few years you find yourself in middle of highly manipulative and insecure people, who are not just incompetent but morally down as well.
ReplyDeleteMy advice to all young engineers is to work hard, target a smaller (even a start-up) company and do something good for their future. There is nothing left in ‘Tata’ name of ‘Tata’ Consultancy Services’. TCS is now good for BPO/BPS oriented people, not for engineers who want to solve problems, create solutions and make something good for their customers, their country or even themselves. Hard fact but absolutely factual.
